Mewkledreamy (ミュークルドリーミー) is the first season of the Mewkledreamy anime. It broadcasted in Japan starting from April 5, 2020 on TV Tokyo network, airing on Sundays at 10:30 AM (JST).

On April 26, 2020, it was announced that episodes after Episode 4 would be delayed due to the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic.[1] On May 24, 2020, new episodes are announced to resume on May 31, 2020.

Story

One day, a middle school student named Yume sees a violet kitten plush fall out of the sky. The kitten is named Mew, and she has the power of "Dream Synchro", which is the ability to enter dreams. That night, the Queen of Miracle Dreamy Kingdom appears in Yume's dream and tells her to collect Dreamy Stones alongside Mew, which will eventually have the power to make one of their wishes come true. Since then, she starts collecting Dreamy Stones with Mew.

Development

The series is being produced by J.C. Staff, and directed by Hiroaki Sakurai. The anime was first announced at the end of August, 2019, and the first promotional video was uploaded to the official Sanrio Youtube channel on the 9th of September, 2019.

It had its first broadcast outside of Japan in Taiwan on YOYO TV on March 27, 2021, a week before the series ended in its home country.

It is also set to premiere in Hong Kong on TVB Jade on April 13, 2021.

Trivia

  • The series is based on a Sanrio character that was introduced in 2017.
  • The title is a fusion of the words "mew", "miracle" or "twinkle", and "dreamy".
  • Chiaki Kon was at first announced as the director of the anime[2], but was replaced by Hiroaki Sakurai when the second announcement came out[3]. She became the project consultant afterwards.
